StairwayAmerican Clay gets TV exposure for plaster finish
American Clay Enterprises Inc.'s earth plaster finish was the featured green product in an April episode of ABC-TV's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," and on the show's Web site. The manufacturers of American Clay Earth Plasters donated $17,000 worth of premixed and precolored plaster to the featured family's home in Albuquerque, N.M.

The episode tells the story of the Martinez family, who moved to a rough neighborhood of Albuquerque with hopes of improving the dangerous area. After the family moved into the neighborhood, its crime rate reportedly dropped by 50 percent.

To reward the family's kindness to the needy and efforts to improve the neighborhood, the design team built the Martinez family their own 3,500 square-foot home, replacing a row of condemned shacks in the neighborhood. They also renovated other buildings that improve outreach into the community.

American Clay was used in most of the house in a variety of colors and textures. During the preparation, American Clay provided plaster for 12,000 square feet of wall space, along with design time and 20 applicators.

Mirant to supply synthetic gypsum to Lafarge
Lafarge and Mirant Corp., a leading American energy company, announced that they have signed a long-term agreement under which, beginning in 2010, Mirant will supply synthetic gypsum to Lafarge's gypsum drywall manufacturing facility in Buchanan, N.Y.

Reflecting Lafarge's long-standing commitment to producing "green" products, the company will invest in an upgrade of its Buchanan plant that will enable it to manufacture a full line of gypsum products using this environmentally friendly material. The supply agreement will also ensure Lafarge's continuing, cost-effective access to a critical raw material used in its building products. Upon scheduled completion in 2010, the gypsum board manufactured in this plant will exceed 99 percent recycled content by weight and qualify toward the attainment of LEED credits.

With the addition of the Buchanan plant, nearly all of the gypsum board manufactured by Lafarge in North America will be made with 100 percent recycled paper and recycled gypsum.
